Let's Do the Zoo

April 5, 2013
Ah, life.
We had plans to go to Disneyland on this day.  We planned on heading up the night before, hitting the park early in the morning and coming home that night.  One day of fun in Disneyland.  The kids would have loved it.  I call to get a hotel, it's fully booked.  Called another hotel, fully booked.  Looks like a whole lot of people have spring break after Easter.  Sooooo....
We decided to try out Gilroy Gardens instead.  A little amusement park only a few hours away, less crowded, still fun for the kiddos.  No hotel necessary.  Great.  Forecast: 80% chance of rain in Gilroy.  Sooooo....
Let's do the zoo!
Colby was excited to go.  He got an adorable zoo book for Christmas from cousin Grace.  It came with a disposable camera to take pictures of animals for every letter of the alphabet.  He's been waiting to get it done!
The elephants were very active, eating and drinking and walking around.  So nice since most of the time we go to the zoo and all of the animals are just laying around sleeping (as were the tigers and bears today).
Giraffes were up and about eating, too!
Colby was quite the photographer!  We still need to take the camera in to get the pictures developed.  I'm curious to see what he came up with!
This was Maci's first time at the zoo.  She loved all the animals!
 The flamingos were very pretty...
 The squirrels were very friendly...
And who's this?  Can it be?
 PUMBA!!!
We were quite impressed with the new sea lion cove.
We probably stayed here the longest.  It was cool!
Then on to the reptile house.  Colby liked this, but Maci wasn't as interested.
She decided to just sit with Daddy for a little bit.
 Time for one last picture!
My kids like the zoo, but they sure don't waste any time.  They see an animal for about 5 seconds, then they are ready to move on.  We had to try to slow them down and point out fun things about the animals just to stretch out the trip a little bit!  I think we were only there about an hour.  Holy smokes!
After the zoo, we headed over to the movies to see The Croods.  Colby loved it.  Again, Maci was only happy to sit still as long as she had her popcorn.  It was much better than Escape from Planet Earth, but I was still slightly disappointed.  What do I expect?
It wasn't Disneyland, but we spent the whole day as a family - so you can't beat that!
